RCIA

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

This seven-month program has been developed to assist adults who are not Catholic or baptized Catholics who have not received the other two sacraments of initiation (Eucharist & Confirmation) in learning about the Catholic faith in a supportive environment. The RCIA is also an excellent opportunity for fully initiated Catholics to deepen their understanding of the Church.

Through prayer and study, participants and their sponsors* will go through a curriculum that will begin by examining our longing and search for God and will continue with learning about the sacramental life of the Church, Catholic doctrine handed on since the time of the apostles, and a myriad of other facets which are part of the lives of Catholic Christians.

What commitment is an adult making by enrolling in the RCIA?

Other than attending the weekly classes and joining the parish for Sunday Eucharist, no binding commitment is made. Participants may opt out if they feel unsure or uneasy about continuing at any time during the seven months.

Is there a financial commitment?

No. Our Lady will provide all materials you will need for the year.

*What is a sponsor, and why do I need one?

A sponsor is a fully initiated Catholic, a Catholic who has been baptized, received the Eucharist (Holy Communion) and received the sacrament of Confirmation. A sponsor is also someone active in living out their Catholic faith.  Each participant will choose a sponsor to be their guide through the RCIA process. (If the adult participant does not know any Catholic who fits these requirements, the parish has men and women who would gladly serve as sponsors).

What if I am already baptized in another Christian Church?

If you enter the RCIA already baptized, you will enter as a candidate. Regardless of religious affiliation, being baptized with water in the name of the Trinity is a valid and binding sacrament. If you are not yet baptized, you enter the RCIA as a catechumen or one preparing for baptism.

When and where are the classes held?

Classes will be held every Thursday (adjusted schedule for the holidays) at 7:00 p.m. in the Rectory Basement, beginning on September 8th.  You may join RCIA at any time of the year.

How do I register?

To register, please call the parish office @ 636-937-5513 and let them know you are interested in joining the RCIA. You will be asked to leave a contact phone number, and one of the RCIA team members will call you and give you the particulars.
